Battleship USS Alabama

The USS Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, is a very impressive sight, from her 16" guns, to her wooden deck, to her massive size! You can tour most of the inside by climbing up and down steep ladders, walking through bulkhead and watertight doors, viewing memorabilia, and imagine life aboard this behemoth.  Threw in a picture of a B52.

  1. Once, in the 60s when I was stationed at the Presidio of San Frncisco, I was walking across the parade ground and noticed a group turned to stare at the bay downhill from us. I saw a large warship pass inward and the size impressed me - until I saw the ship following - the USNS New Jersey just coming home from 'Nam.
But, that wasn't all. Just then, going outbound was a huge nuclear carrier - can't remember which. She made that massive battleship look like a destroyer.
Also,at least once every year, the White Fleet came to visit San Francisco and that was an awesome sight with those old WWII ships on parade.
